You are Blessed
While on a short term overseas missions trip an American pastor was leading worship at a leper colony on the West Indies island of Tobago. There was time for one more song, so he asked if anyone had a request. A woman who had been facing away from the pulpit turned round.
“It was the most hideous face I had ever seen,” the pastor said later. “The woman’s nose and ears were completely gone. The disease had destroyed her lips. She lifted a fingerless hand in the air and asked ‘Can we sing Count Your Blessings?’”
Overcome with emotion the pastor broke down and had to leave the service. He was followed by a team member who, trying to help him said “I guess you’ll never want to sing that song again.”
“Yes I will,” he replied, “but I’ll never be able to sing it the same way.”
Count your blessings;
Name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.
