Day 22 How’s Your Heart?

How’s Your Heart?

We don’t just live in a world. A world lives in us. I might leave my home and family when I drive off to work or wherever else I’m going, but I never leave them behind. I carry them in my heart. I carry every friend who makes up my world in my heart every day.

And it’s more than just people, far more. My ways of thinking, formed from tens of thousands of experiences, good and bad, wonderful and painful, are all carried in my heart.

Proverbs 4:23 says ‘Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.’ The word translated ‘wellspring’ is almost always in the Old Testament translated ‘boundary.’ A boundary was the extremity of what was owned, the limit of what we could say was ‘ours.’

So the boundaries of our lives are determined by our heart. Our heart sets the limits on our lives. Going beyond our limits is almost impossible for us – unless we can extend our heart in some way.

God is always working on our heart. ‘My son, give me your heart’ (Proverbs 23:26) is His constant cry. Real change begins both with our heart and in our heart.

If you want to change your world, or just your own life, begin with your heart. A prayer God loves to answer.
