Day 15 Pray Without Ceasing

Pray Without Ceasing

The Lord is my light and my salvation –

whom shall I fear?

The Lord is the stronghold of my life –

of whom shall I be afraid?

Though an army besiege me,

my heart will not fear;

though war break out against me,

even then will I be confident.

Psalm 27:1,3

How do we stay in faith when our world feels like it’s caving in around us? One key is to keep the lines of communication with God open all the time.

In 1 Thessalonians 5:17 Paul tells the church to “pray continually” (NIV). The King James says “pray without ceasing.” Other versions translate the passage “never stop praying” (CEV), “pray at all times” (Message), “be unceasing in prayer – praying perseveringly” (Amplified).

Too many Christians ignore this verse because they think it asks the impossible – to be praying every waking moment. Paul may have been thinking that, but it’s far more likely he had in mind something broader, that includes the need to be living in God’s conscious presence all the time. This means keeping the lines of communication between us and Him open constantly. It means letting nothing slip in to damage our walk with Him. It means staying in the light all the time, so we find ourselves talking with Him through the day over and over. It means letting Him into every single part of our day – where we go, who we see, what we do, what we think – every single part right through the day.
