Day 14 The Whole Message

The Whole Message

Wellington represented the last formidable opposition to the French army under the command of Napoleon. Everything came to a head at the battle of Waterloo.

To communicate the outcome of the battle to English towns from Belgium, across the English Channel, a system of flashing lights was devised, to go from one church top to another. The battle ended with England victorious. The message was sent “Wellington defeated Napoleon.”

As the message was received and sent on, a thick fog descended on part of the area where the people waited eagerly for some news. By the time London heard the outcome, the message had become “Wellington defeated.”

The news meant England would have to prepare for an inevitable invasion. It was some time before the fog lifted and the complete version of the message could again be sent “Wellington defeated Napoleon.”

On Good Friday, it looked like the message to be sent out was “Jesus defeated.” But this was never to be the whole story. When the fog lifted, it was Sunday and the missing word could be clearly added – “Jesus defeated Satan.”

Don’t ever believe only part of the Easter message.
