Day 15 Resist the Devil

Resist the Devil

Anyone who has ever read the stories of the great men and women God has used over the centuries knows that all of them experienced hardship. The great prayer warrior, Rees Howells was no exception.

Returning to Wales from Egypt in 1922, Rees quickly recognised the crying need for a Bible College to train the young people for ministry and the mission field. In the following year he discovered an ideal building. Rees knew the owner had turned down 10,000 pounds, but still offered the figure God laid on his heart – 6,150 pounds. Against all odds, and after many hair-raising moments when it seemed all was lost, the transaction went through, the money was prayed in, and the college opened.

After an unusually good beginning, the College suffered upheaval. Its success caused a number of groups, all with vested interests and selfish, non-Kingdom vision, to try to take over. At their lowest point, and with only five students left, the College closed down all lectures. All their time together was given to prayer. This continued for a year before God’s blessing restored their numbers. Even though lectures were re-instituted, the emphasis on prayer would ever remain a central thrust of the College.

Hardship is not an evidence God has left you. The devil does not want Christ exalted or His Kingdom extended. If you commit yourself to both, the enemy will rise against you. Don’t give in and don’t give up. Submit yourself to God and resist the devil.
