Day 28 Keep Moving

Keep Moving

Constant change should be the norm for Christians. Unfortunately for most of us it’s the very opposite.

Some of us don’t like change, but for most of us, the real problem is that we’ve become too comfortable right where we are. For God to get us moving He first has to dislodge us. We’re so entrenched that it’s going to take something pretty special to make us move.

The writer of Hebrews says of the great men and women of God ‘They admitted they were aliens and strangers on earth. People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own. If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have opportunity to return. Instead they were looking for a better country – a heavenly one’ (Hebrews 11:13-16). He then adds ‘Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them’ (Hebrews 11:16).

So God is not ashamed to be called the God of those who don’t settle down in this world but whose heart is set on the next one. You might say “But I’m going to heaven. Isn’t that enough?” The simple answer is “no.” The great men and women of God didn’t settle down in this world and that’s what most of us do. We might be going to heaven but we want it easy in the here and now.

Don’t settle down! I don’t care how old you are or what you have or don’t have. Don’t settle down! Don’t put your roots so deep that God has to set a bomb under you to get you moving.

This world isn’t our home. We’re visiting earth. We’re just passing through.
