Day 29 Worship Only Him

Worship Only Him

And God spoke all these words: ‘I am the Lord your God who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God  Exodus 20:1-5

There is a big difference between envy and jealousy. Envy is when I want what someone else has but which I have no right to. Jealousy is when I want what is rightly mine but which is being given to someone else. God is a jealous God. He created us for Himself. When we give ourselves to anyone but Him, our God becomes jealous. He wants what is rightly His but which is being given to another.

Present the offerings made to the Lord by fire, the food of their God   Leviticus 21:6

God Himself identifies the offerings of the priests as His food. It’s not that God needed actual meat and grain to eat. The satisfaction He was looking for came through the obedience to the prescribed worship laid down in the tabernacle sacrifices. He wanted worship. As often as His people sat down to eat, God looked for a ‘meal’ of praise.

  1. W. Tozer wrote “We’re here to be worshippers first and workers only second. We take a convert and immediately make that new Christian a worker. God never meant it to be so. God meant that a convert should learn to be a worshipper, and after that he or she can learn to be a worker … The work done by a worshipper will have eternity in it.”

God wants more than your time or your money. He wants you. He wants you to know Him as He really is. Fullness of joy is only found in His presence. The deepest satisfaction life can offer is kept for those who lose their own life so they can be found in Him.

Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent’ (John 17:3)
