Day 28 Whose Values?

Whose Values?

Imagine you woke up tomorrow morning and decided to open a coffee shop. This won’t be just another coffee shop. You know exactly what you want to see happen. You want great décor, quick and efficient service and quality products that will have the customers coming back for more and more.

You start making plans. You find the perfect spot and at a reasonable price. You’re so excited. You work around the clock to have it looking just right. This is your dream you’re chasing.

You open the doors on the first morning and in time have a steady trickle of customers. You’re over the moon.

But it doesn’t take long before you find yourself doing just about all the work. You have part time help but they never seem to want to put their heart into it. To them it isn’t a dream; it’s just another job.

What’s the problem here? You have passion. You have a clear picture of where you want to go. The problem is that no one else working for you feels what you feel. They don’t have your emotional DNA.

Church life can be like this. The most effective workers in any local church are those who have picked up the church’s DNA. They don’t push their own wheelbarrow. They realise God is forming something unique in that church so they become DNA carriers of what God’s doing there. They make the values of that church their own. They let God mould and fashion them. And in time they realise why God brought them specifically to that church and not to another.
