Day 31 God’s Power to Overcome

God’s Power to Overcome

Corrie ten Boom and her sister, Betsie, thought their time in prison was at an end when they heard the Allied forces had invaded France. Instead, they found themselves taken from their beloved Holland into Ravensbruck prison camp in Germany. As they were going through induction, Corrie managed to hide a small Bible and a little bottle of vitamin drops. Both would prove invaluable.

Each evening, women of all ethnic and denominational backgrounds met together for worship, study and to encourage each other. The barracks room was swarming with fleas which kept the guards away.

With the approach of winter, daily life became increasingly difficult. The morning roll call could last hours and kept the women out in the open at the mercy of the elements. Then they did an eleven hour work day in terrible conditions, sustained by a meagre food ration and almost no medical care.

God supernaturally filled the bottle of vitamin drops so it never emptied. As Betsie’s general health deteriorated, the vitamin drops became her only sustenance.
Not long before her death, Betsie had a vision in which she saw that they would be out of the camp by January 1st, 1945, and a large home in Holland where those broken by the war would be ministered to. She died three days before the new year, and Corrie was released on the last day of 1944. One part of the vision had come to pass. The next was not far away.

God is faithful – faithful to His Word and faithful to His promises. In the wilderness, Jesus answered Satan with scripture. Trust God’s promises. They have great power – power to overcome the enemy and power to change both our circumstances and our heart.
