Day 17 Responsibility

Responsibility

Oscar Wilde once remarked that by the age of forty, everyone has the face they deserve. While not completely true, there’s a profound truth in there.

The life you’re living now has little to do with all your outward circumstances. Proverbs 4:23 tells us we live out of our heart. Our heart takes on its character from the experiences we’ve been through and the choices we’ve made. Every choice we make helps form our heart. Right choices form our heart the way God wants. Wrong choices form our heart the way God doesn’t want.

Someone with a “victim mentality” has made wrong choices. Instead of guarding their heart they’ve responded to life’s circumstances wrongly, and conveniently blamed those circumstances for the way they are. This means they don’t see the need to take responsibility for where they’re now at. Everything that goes wrong in their life is someone else’s fault.

But war, starvation and everything in-between are not inevitable. They result from a long series of wrong choices people have made.

God holds us responsible for all our choices. Don’t blame your circumstances. Take personal responsibility to react the way God wants you to react. Your heart will begin to be transformed and your life will change.
