Day 10 A Dedicated Life

A Dedicated Life

George Mueller was 65 when Mary, his wife of forty years died. Theirs had been a near perfect marriage and they were very much in love right to the end. Sensing God had much more for him, and knowing how difficult life could be alone, Mueller married Susannah (a friend and colleague of 25 years) two years later.

At the age of 70, George could not escape the burden for the nations, and dedicated the rest of his years to world travel and preaching. Over the next 17 years he and Susannah visited and ministered in 42 nations including Australia. George had become a world figure and Christians flocked to hear him.

Surprisingly, few extra funds came back to the orphanages in Bristol despite the world tours, and George carried the prayer burden for their provision constantly. He refused to allow the work to go into debt, and would sell off any land or other property not absolutely necessary before breaking this undertaking.

George was 90 when his second wife died. His mind was still clear and his faith undimmed. He continued to preach and live an active life right up to the end. On his last morning on earth, Mueller, now 93, rose early, dressed himself and went to his place of prayer. He never returned. Jesus took him home. His funeral was Bristol’s largest, with tens of thousands lining the streets to bid farewell to this amazing man.

Our lives are not over until Jesus calls us home. Live your life to the full, occupied for Christ, right to the close. Old age is not the end. It’s just a different pathway. Make every day count.
