Day 18 Eternity’s Perspective

Eternity’s Perspective

Psalm 73 highlights a common test for Christians. We look around us and can’t understand why people who want nothing to do with God do so well. ‘They have no struggles; their bodies are healthy and strong … This is what the wicked are like – always carefree, they increase in wealth’ (verses 1 and 12).

This is made harder when our life is marked by struggles and even sickness ‘All day long I have been plagued; I have been punished every morning’ (verse 14). We can be left wondering if the choice we’ve made to live a Christian life has been worth it ‘Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure; in vain I have washed my hands in innocence’ (verse 13).

But then the writer makes a stunning discovery. He felt all these swirling thoughts ‘until I entered the sanctuary of God; then I understood their final destiny’ (verse 17). When he saw what the person who rejects God is facing, he completely changed his mind. ‘How suddenly are they destroyed, completely swept away’ (verse 19).

God’s perspective is the only one that will count in eternity. We are earth-bound in body but not necessarily in spirit. We need to feed our inner man on God’s truth through His Word made alive to us through His Spirit.

Ask the Lord to give you His perspective on life. Learn to live in the shadow of eternity. It will completely change how you see your everyday life.
