Day 25 Let Your Soul Catch Up

Let Your Soul Catch Up

A man went on safari in an African nation, hiring some local men as guides and to carry the bags. Because he had arrived late, he was already three days behind schedule and the original safari had left without him.

After the first day of running in the jungle heat, the men were exhausted. Early the next morning, the visitor blew a whistle and began yelling “Come on. Let’s go. We’ve got to catch the safari.” The men jumped up, strapped on the bags, and started running.

Long after the sun had set, they were finally allowed to stop. Each fell to the jungle floor, utterly tired out. The foreigner was well pleased. “If we keep up this pace, we’ll catch the others.”

So the next morning, as the shrill whistle sounded, they again jumped up, strapped on the bags and began another arduous day. They ran all day long.

The fourth morning came. The eager visitor was yelling “Today we shall catch them.” He whistled as before, but no one jumped up. “Come on. Get moving. Right now.”

The leader of the men replied, “We’re not moving.”

Indignant the foreigner insisted “I paid you to help me catch up with the safari.”

“Sir,” said the leader firmly, “We are not moving. We’ve run hard for three days and now have to wait for our souls to catch up with us.”

Life is probably more hectic for most of us than it’s ever been but don’t let its pace squeeze out your life with God. Daily time in the Bible and prayer are essentials; they’re not added extras. They come first. Everything else follows. Let your soul catch up.
