Day 30 The Cosmic Shock

The Cosmic Shock

This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant     Colossians 1:23

Because Paul hadn’t even visited the church he writes to here, what did he mean by saying the gospel … has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven?

One possible explanation is that when Jesus rose from the dead as King and Lord of the world, a spiritual shock wave ran right through the cosmos.

Nobody had ever gone down into death and emerged the other side, never to face death again. This resurrection was not only the very first of its kind, it was the beginning of God’s new creation.

Imagine a world that’s been in darkness for time immemorial. Nothing grows. Nothing changes. And then one day the early morning rays of the sun begin to lighten the pitch blackness. This is the first dawn ever. Something akin to this happened when Jesus rose from the dead. The darkened world reverberated.

Jesus was the first born from among the dead (Colossians 1:18) and now He is bringing to birth a whole new world.

When someone hears the gospel and responds, what is happening is that the new creation, which has not only started but that lays claim to the entire cosmos, is becoming real and actual in another. human life. Another person is becoming a new creation as they receive the resurrection life of Jesus on the inside.
