Day 14 Simeon’s Faith

Simeon’s Faith

Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. It had been revealed to him that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required, Simeon took him in his arms and praised God   Luke 2:25-28

Simeon is the first man in history to clearly recognise that Jesus was the long-expected Messiah. Even Joseph probably wasn’t sure at this early stage.

What was there about this old man that made him so open to God?

Part of the answer is that Simeon was a man impacted by the Trinity. Firstly, he was righteous and devout (Luke 2:25). This was his standing before God the Father. It had been revealed to him … that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Christ (Luke 2:26). So secondly, he believed in and longed for the awaited Son of God. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit … Moved by the Holy Spirit … (Luke 2:26,27). Thirdly, he knew the power of the Holy Spirit revealing God’s truth and directing his life.

Our relationship with God is a relationship with God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

God is one in essence, but reveals Himself to us in three Persons – Father, Son and Spirit.
