Day 10 Leave All Behind

Leave All Behind

As Jesus and his disciples were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him. Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us …” Jesus stopped and called them. “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked. “Lord,” they answered, “we want our sight.”   Matthew 20:29,30,32,33

Jesus’ question exposed the hearts of these two blind men. If blind from birth, begging would be all they had ever known. Sitting together probably attracted more attention and more sympathy from passers-by. Their income from small change would be small but adequate.

How would they fare in the world of sight? The “real” world would be unknown to them. They would have no education or training. How would they cope?

Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him (Matthew 20:34).

Here is the greater miracle, not just that they received their sight but that they were willing to leave behind all they had ever known to follow Jesus.

Discipleship means just that. It means letting go of our securities and trusting Jesus and Jesus alone.

Is this easy? No it’s not. Can I trust Him? Yes you can.
