Day 31 A Fresh Start

A Fresh Start

While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? … When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet. And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement … Luke 24:36,37,39

Think of the bleak despair and hopelessness of the disciples after the death of their Master. They were shattered men. Just imagine how much they would have given to have the tumultuous events of those days reversed and to have Jesus back. If there was ever something honestly too good to be true, it would be having Jesus with them again. And then it happened! Jesus supernaturally appeared in their midst. Luke captures their emotions with his ‘they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement.’

Jesus was alive. He had broken forever the bonds of sin, death and the grave. He had answered decisively that age-old question, ‘Is there a way out of this life and into the unknown – a bridge into eternity?’ Yes there is. Jesus has pioneered it and calls humanity to follow Him.

This miracle of the resurrection is well documented. But there is another miracle that takes place in our own life. Paul wrote ‘the Son of God … loved me and gave himself for me’ (Galatians 2:20). Have you ever really thought about God loving you so much that He would leave heaven, become a man and take upon Himself every sin you ever have or ever will commit? He took the full punishment for your sin in your place. He died the death you deserved, so He could bring you to heaven to live in God’s full presence forever. Why? The answer has very little to do with you and everything to do with God. God is love. God loved you so much that He sent His Son to die for you.

Have you responded to God’s love and call over your life? Have you placed your trust in Jesus? The best way to end an old year off is with a fresh start. Now’s the time. Do it!
