Being Gifted
‘And David realised that the Lord had established him as king over Israel, and that his kingdom was highly exalted for the sake of His people Israel’ (1 Chronicles 14:2)
God raised up David ‘for the sake of His people Israel’. God raises up ministries today ‘for the sake of His people the church.’ God doesn’t want superstars and he definitely doesn’t want any ministry thinking that’s what they are.
Someone is not gifted by God today because they’re better, truer, or greater. The gift tells us far more about the Giver than the recipient. The core of the issue is not ‘our ministry’ but ‘His church.’ God raises up ministries to bring His church to maturity, to have His church do what it’s called to do and be what it’s called to be.
God didn’t raise up Israel for David’s sake; He raised up David for Israel’s sake. And it’s just as true today. God has called every Christian to serve others in ministry. Our call is to bless others.
So get off that church chair and give yourself away. Spend and be spent. Reach out beyond yourself. Become Jesus’ hands and feet. The hurting world is still waiting.
