Day 2 Health Principles

Health Principles

My son, pay attention to what I say;

listen closely to my words.

Do not let them out of your sight,

keep them within your heart;

for they are life to those who find them

and health to a man’s whole body

Proverbs 4:20-22

I believe someone who reads the Bible regularly, taking in what it says and obeying its instructions, is more likely to live a longer and healthier life than someone who doesn’t.

The Proverbs passage above contains an obvious promise of health to those who follow wisdom, where wisdom is contained in the words the father (Solomon) is giving his son.

Health comes to the one who holds to God’s Word in two ways:

(1) If we follow wisdom, which is how God wants us to live, we will turn away from certain behaviours that can harm us, and turn toward other behaviours that will benefit us. The book of Proverbs has many examples of both kinds of behaviours.

(2) God supernaturally restrains some harm, including sickness, from coming onto us, while enhancing the effectiveness of healthy things we do so they are of extra benefit to us.

I don’t doubt the comparatively healthy life I’ve known can be mainly accounted for by these two principles.
