Day 8 Made Perfect

Made Perfect

‘Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things He suffered. And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation’   Hebrews 5:8,9.
These are puzzling verses to many. If Jesus was ‘made perfect’ by His suffering, does that mean He was not perfect beforehand? Being ‘made perfect’ means to be fully qualified.
The God who made this world in the first place has remained deeply committed to it, even though it has become corrupt and wayward.
If Jesus was to live out all that it meant to be God’s Son, He would have to experience His Father’s pain and grief over a world gone wrong. The fullest expression of that pain and grief could only be known by rescuing the world from its sin.
When Jesus went to the cross, He not only entered fully into the pain of our sin but also into the pain of God the Father. He became fully qualified, from man’s perspective by becoming sin for us, and from God’s perspective, by feeling fully God’s deep brokenness and heartache.
Having done that through the cross, Jesus ‘became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation.’ He was now fully qualified to be the world’s Saviour.
